Royals and Yankees Strike Zone Comparison

Several discussions I have seen recently have mentioned that the Yankees are getting the benefit of some calls vs the Royals. I decided to look out how the strike zone compares on 0-0 counts for the Royals and the Yankees. ┬áHere is a .gif showing the comparison of zone from the umpire’s perspective that is called against the hitters for each team.

It actually seems that the Yankees are probably the team getting hosed a bit.

  1. There may be more to the story than we know about. Perhaps there is a family meebmr who is ill and won’t last more than a year. Or he simply wants to spend more time with his family. Considering baseball has what, 162 games a year (?), you are probably away from home a good portion of the year. I imagine people like that are only excited when they actually get to play. Knowing you’ll be on the bench all year is probably not terribly exciting.
